The Beginning

I thought I would start at the beginning, I began applying for new jobs in May 2017 after nearly 7 years at the University as I wanted a change. To be honest, I applied for the Amazon Executive Assistant role thinking I will never hear back from them, but meh why not put my CV in.

When I checked my application status 2 weeks later it said 'reviewed not submitted' which I thought was not a surprise maybe because of only working in higher education. 2 weeks later I got a call from an unknown number - a recruiter at Amazon who wanted to speak to me about a role and how they thought I would be a good fit, after 3 lots of interviews including 6 hours in person, I was offered a job much to my amazement. We then had the decision to make as to whether or not we moved to another country with no support, not knowing another language and how this would affect Margot.

We felt it was too good an opportunity to pass up and we now had the stressful process of securing a nursery place in another country, finding an apartment, finding someone to rent our house in the UK, sort all our bills, sort a new bank account, and also for Mark to find a job.

But we did it, and nearly a year later we have now moved and settled into our second apartment in Luxembourg, Margot is learning French and Luxembourgish at nursery/creche and I am enjoying my work.

So now with some knowledge behind us, I want to use this space to help parents and others in navigating the country especially when you don't speak any of their main languages. I am trying to learn though honest...
